Assessments
Grades K through 4
Students will be assessed on multiple levels. Grades K through 4 will be told what is expected of them at the beginning of every project presentation. Students in grades K through 2 will receive a check, a plus, or a minus as a grade based on their achievements and their progression of skills. Grades 3 and 4 will be graded with a numerical score based on a rubric and that score will be recorded in the PowerSchool online portal.
Grades 5 through 8
Grades 5 through 8 will be given a rubric at the beginning of the project. Students will be asked to keep this rubric and use it as a way to ensure they are including everything necessary to procure a good grade on their project. When their project is completed, the students will turn it in and will be graded using the same rubric. Once they have been graded, their score will be recorded and be entered onto the PowerSchool online portal.
Extra credit will be offered to students in grades 5 through 8. The students will be allowed to complete one extra credit assignment per trimester. The list of extra credit possibilities will be listed by the classroom door. It will be the students’ responsibility to seek, complete, and turn in the extra credit assignment. Extra credit assignments will not be accepted after the end of the trimester.
Students will also receive a citizenship grade, which is part of their overall final grade. This involves students’ responsibility in regard to materials and cleanup, consistent effort on each project, edifying the classroom environment, and participating in classroom critiques and discussions.
Students may receive homework related to specific projects. Due to our limited time together and amount of time in between classes, homework is not only helpful in retaining concepts and reinforcing deeper understanding, but is also given in manageable amounts with more than enough time to complete it. Students will not be expected to complete art projects at home due to issues with materials.
